The Human Connectome Project
Who am I? - this is an eternal question asked by many.
According to science, "I" is a combination and connection of neurons and neural activity in the brain. Brain has approximately 80 billion neurons and each human being is unique because these neurons snap and interact differently. The flow of information is different for different individuals hence the individuality and hence the difference in reaction and memory. Our taste, love, desire etc all stem from these connections, essentially transfer of electrical and chemical impulses between neurons. In other words, "I' and the feeling of "I", implied here, is reduced to chemical and electrical properties.
Besides, not sure what science tells about the reason behind a particular type of synapses or connection? Why is it connecting differently for different people? To me, it just explains the mechanism (the how and what) but not the why? For that again, we have to look elsewhere for the answer.

An elephant to the rescue
People say animals do not have soul, or feelings or the ability to think. This video proves otherwise.
Anyone with an ounce of intelligence will understand that animals of all species have desire, intelligence, mind and feelings (thus consciousness) to emote at times of happiness or despair. It is just that the emotions fit the body of that living being. Animals have the same rights as humans to live out their lives per their life style habits. In my opinion, humans who support animal slaughter have feelings less than an animal since they cannot appreciate the consciousness (thinking, feeling and desiring) of the animal.
In this video, two elephants are trying hard to prevent the baby elephant from dying. You can see that they show urgency which means they understand the elephant is drowning and will die if we do not save it immediately (like any human). Since elephants are evolved beings, their consciousness is evolved to the point they can understand when someone is drowning. Then they use their intelligence and mental capacity to save the drowning elephant.

Megacities: Urban Future, the Emerging Complexity
Megacities are, by definition, urban areas with a population of 10 million or more. The video is used as part of an “Advanced Special Operations Combating Terrorism” course offered at Joint Special Operations University (JSOU) for a lesson on “The Emerging Terrorism Threat.”
The video is nothing if not an instant dystopian classic: melancholy music, an ominous voiceover, and cascading images of sprawling slums and urban conflict. “Megacities are complex systems where people and structures are compressed together in ways that defy both our understanding of city planning and military doctrine,” says a disembodied voice. “These are the future breeding grounds, incubators, and launching pads for adversaries and hybrid threats.”It is a collage of pictures of current events predicting a foreseeable dystopian future.
The video eerily shows whats in store for the future of Kali yuga. As dark as the video may sound, it misses one thing - God or Krishna. As long as Krishna is still on this planet, there is some hope. More than anytime in the past, it is important we connect with Krishna and stay connected. Deeper understanding of "consciousness" living is the solution to the ever growing complicated urban lifestyle.
But lets make one thing clear -the problem is real and we have to be ready to face it.

2016 Sadhu Sanga Retreat
Last weekend I was in North Carolina, in the picturesque setting of Whispering Hills, Boone County. It was a memorable time as we engaged in constantly glorifying the Lord from morning to night in sankirtan. Although physically tiring, spiritually enlivening. I was told around 1500 devotees assembled for the retreat. I took some videos using my iphone.

Global warming
Unless we address the ecology of our hearts, it is not possible to change world ecology. Greed of corporations and hedonistic lifestyle of humans lead to exploitation of fauna and flora to the point of natural imbalance which we see manifest as global warming. Along with environmental moratoriums, a spiritual awakening is necessary among the masses to control and prevent global imbalance of nature.
