A lesson from Haiti

The above pictures depict the catastrophe by an earthquake in Haiti in 2010. The pictures courtesy Yahoo.

Who in the right mind will think to enjoy in this world. The Vedic literatures clearly speak about such dangers - Padam Padam Yadvipadam na tesam - that there is danger at every step. These pictures reinforce the danger. Of course as people who desire to seek spiritual truths should not be "disturbed" but should feel "compassion" and be reinforced of Krishna's warnings to mankind.

We have to take our human life seriously and not simply waste it on wane pursuits to material "enjoyment". What is the value of such enjoyment? Really...in one sense we all are going to end up something similar in the picture. Not everyone may experience an earthquake but suffering, and ultimately death is a truth we all will have to face.

We have to seek strength in a higher truth beyond the suffering and pains of this world. That higher truth is Krishna. Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita (BG 3.27) that only He (Krishna) can help us in the time of need and none other. The only way we can remain calm in such trying circumstances is if we have faith that Krishna will protect us under all circumstances. This faith can be cultivated gradually by chanting His names.

Chanting Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare will give us the strength and faith to face trying situations in our lives.

Please chant

Hare Krishna
